Sometimes youth need individualized attention. Often times they can't get that due to home situations and class structure. Our school based adult mentors are assigned to a school site and meet weekly for a minimum of 1/2 hour per week with assigned mentees.
Mentees are also able to attend groups after school and during school breaks for continued time with their mentor. These groups include free play, homework help, snacks, and planned activities.
The simple act of showing up and caring has had a profound effect. This program has seen a significant increase in grades and attendance. It has also decreased behavior issues in the class.
In the 2016-2017 school year when 1st quarter report cards were compared to 4rth quarter report cards of our mentees:
Monetary donations have the most immediate impact. We are also grateful for recreational supplies, and food for snacks and lunches. See our wish list for what we need.
1/2 hour a week of your time can change everything for a student. If school hours conflict with your work schedule we love volunteers for our groups. This can be a one time visit or a longer commitment. Come share your hobbies and talents with kids. It will mean the world to them.
The Mentoring Program is in need of donations for the following:
Art and Craft Supplies
Kid Friendly Snack Food
Water and Juice
